Dear Family and Friends,

This year I will be running the Philadelphia Broad Street Run to benefit our Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Clinic at Covenant House-- a shelter for youth ages 18-21.  Covenant House Pennsylvania provides loving care and vital services to homeless, abandoned, abused, trafficked, and exploited youth, with outreach teams operating in every zip code in Philadelphia. 

No youth should have to experience homelessness, but unfortunately too many do in Philadelphia for reasons like poverty, aging out of the foster care system, being rejected by their families because of their sexual or gender identity or struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues. I have now been providing medical care to youth at Cov for over 15 years and because of our CHOP connection we can ensure that every young person who comes into the shelter has access to the best medical care regardless of their insurance status.  For many youth experiencing homelessness this may be the first time in many years that they will have a physical,  and get linked to other critical medical and mental health services.  In this clinic we also have the luxury of taking the time we need to support the health and resilience of young people who are at critical transition point.
