MILESTONES THAT MATTER

CAMPAIGN: 40 FOR 40 FOR 40

For her milestone birthday (the big 4-0), Nora appealed to her friends via email, personal blog and Facebook. She asked that 40 people donate $40 each in honor of her 40th with a goal of raising $2,000 for homeless young people. Nora chose to share her personal story to motivate people to contribute to the cause, and it is an especially inspiring one. For many complicated reasons, when Nora was 15, she and her sister were homeless for a week They found Covenant House, where they received hot meals, clean beds and someone to listen to them at their most vulnerable moments. Within a few days, Covenant House helped them get back to their family. Nora says that Covenant House was her sanctuary. “While we were there we met a few kids who’d been there for months. There were some who’d had substance abuse issues and others who’d been mistreated by parents. They all felt safe at Covenant House. I’ll be forever grateful that we found Covenant House when we needed a place to gather our bearings and stay safe. Not all teenagers are so lucky.”

TEAM UP FOR TEENS

CAMPAIGN: DUNK N' DONATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The Dunk N' Donate Charity Basketball Tournament was started by youth for youth! The tournament was a huge success - bring together 8 teams who raised over $3,000 dollars from registration fees and donations - but it was what happened after that was surprising and special. The tournament caught the attention of a local newspaper, who published an article about the group’s efforts. Someone who read the article was so inspired that they decided to hold a Zumbathon to support the basketball tournament and Covenant House, raising an additional $1,625! It’s amazing to watch what can happen when people set out to do good, and we’re so grateful to have been a part of it!

PARTY WITH PURPOSE

CAMPAIGN: SARA'S FUND-RAGER

Sara attended a charity event at a new club in her area and immediately knew she wanted to host a similar style party for Covenant House, a charity she knew about from a family member. She put together a small committee of like-minded friends and together they planned a “FundRager.”  They shared their fundraising page on social media before the event and at the party they had several revenue generating activities – drink specials, games, and contests – all of which added to their fundraising total!
